Grasshoppers Early Learning Centre, Ohaupo, Hamilton

Welcome to Grasshoppers Early Learning Centre!

We are a privately owned centre licensed for 65 children aged birth to six years.

Our centre consists of three rooms, all ‘homes away from home’ for your child to learn and grow in.

Our Earth Room ranges from 0-2 Years, our Water room ranges from 2-3.5 years, and our Fire room ranges from 3.5-6 years. However, these ages are a little flexible and transitions between rooms are planned in partnership with you, taking each child’s individual level of development into consideration.

At Grasshoppers Early Learning Centre we are proud to offer children opportunities to explore large open, outdoor spaces where their imaginations will run wild and adventures will take place!

We have vegetable beds, fruit trees in our back yard. Your tamariki will experience growing, harvesting, cooking, collecting and eating their own produce. Produce grown will be eaten by the children, but excess is shared with the centre community, teaching the tamariki about manaakitanga- (caring for themselves and others) and kotahitanga (coming together as one).

Sustainable Practices

Our centre has a focus on environmental sustainability; we work alongside the tamariki to teach and learn together, about Manaakitanga, caring for the natural environment.

At Grasshoppers we are committed to practicing and promoting sustainable practices within our centre, weaving sustainable practices into your child’s daily experiences to develop lifelong skills for learning.

By providing big open spaces for children to enjoy nature and ‘real life’ experiences, we offer a true Kiwi childhood.

Your tamariki have opportunities throughout our programme to connect with nature and experience conservation in New Zealand, linking them with some of the founding principles of The Treaty of Waitangi.
